Weekly Overview———-> November 28-December 2

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!  It was nice to slow down and spend time with friends and family.  Last week, we did not accomplish everything on our agenda, so many of the assignments will be slid into this week’s agenda.  Thank you for you continued support, parents, of your child in my classroom.  I am very lucky to have such a supportive cast of parents this year.  Please remember that you may reach me at my email, agkrecik@cps.edu

ReadingThis week in our  GR Groups, students are working on Reading Strategies:  Making Inference/Prediction/ or Sketch To Stretch while reading their assigned books.  When not in Reading Groups, students will continue their Daily Five independent work.   In addition, students will define poetic devices and investigate their use in song lyrics for our Reading Strategies session this week.

Homework:  Students should read at home at least 30 minutes nightly and making  Thinkmarks  to help them think deeper about their reading.  Strategies used:  Sketch To Stretch and Inference/Prediction

Writing:   Students will create Graphic Organizers to use for Expository Essays.  Expository Essays are Non-Narrative, Five-Paragraph essays.  They will create a Thesis statement and write three supporting ideas that support the Thesis.  Then, they will create supporting details for each of the ideas.

Math:  Students will continue Unit 3:  Geometry.  Study Links 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8 will be assigned.  In addition, students will complete a Tessellation project in class on Friday.  Please ensure that your child has a compass and protractor.

Science:  Students will conduct experiments on Sinking Water Clocks and record investigations in their Science Notebooks.

Homework for Thursday:  Sum It Up investigation

Social Studies:  Students will complete Graphic organizers for Lesson 4 and 5 this week in class.  In addition, students will present their Native American Projects to class.   Native American projects are due by the end of the week, December 2, at the latest.

There will be a  Vocabulary quiz over Chapter 2, Lesson 3, 4 and 5 on Wednesday, November 30.

Homework:  Workbook pages 20-21 due Wednesday, November 30.
