Weekly Overview November 21-25

Hello Parents and Students,

It was a pleasure to meet with so many of you at Parent-Teacher conferences.  This week will be short (again). There will be no Reader’s Letter due this week.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

ReadingThis week in our  GR Groups, students are working on Reading Strategies:  Making Inference/Prediction while reading their assigned books.  When not in Reading Groups, students will continue their Daily Five independent work.   In addition, students will define poetic devices and investigate their use in song lyrics. 

Homework:  Students should read at home at least 30 minutes nightly and making  Thinkmarks  to help them think deeper about their reading.

Writing:   Students will continue to collect Writing topics this week.  In addition, students will create Graphic Organizers to use for Expository Essays.  Expository Essays are Non-Narrative, Five-Paragraph essays.

As a culminating project, students will compose Reflection Essays for the D.A.R.E. program.

Math:  Students will begin Unit 3:  Geometry.  Study Links 3.3, 3.4, and 3.5 will be assigned.  Please ensure that your child has a compass and protractor.

Science:  Students will conduct experiments on Sinking Water Clocks and record investigations in their Science Notebooks.

Social Studies:  Students will read Chapter 2, Lesson 5 this week and define vocabulary words.  There will be a  Vocabulary quiz over Chapter 2, Lesson 3, 4 and 5 on Wednesday, November 23.

Native American Project:   This project will serve as a Chapter 2 assessment, in place of a test.

NOTICE: DATE CHANGE!!!  Projects are due December 2nd.   Students should continue researching their chosen Native American tribe.  They should have a project (from Choices) and Oral report ready to present to the class by December 2nd at the latest.  I will offer students one trip to the computer lab for research this week.
