Here is what’s going on in our classroom this week:

Reader’s Workshop–This week, students will continue their 5th grade Daily 5 activities:  Read To Self, Listen To Reading, Word Work, Guided Reading, and Reader’s Response.  In addition, we will begin  our class novel, Wonder.  Students should be reading AT LEAST 30 active minutes nightly in their selected Independent Reading book.  Students will be required to take a reading quiz after they finish each independent novel.

Writer’s Workshop-This week,  students will continue to work to turn one writing piece into a published story.  We will draft, revise, and edit our writing pieces before we publish a final draft.  This week will focus on revising drafts for better word choice and sensory details that add suspense in scary stories.

Math-In Math, students will review concepts of area and volume.  Students will take the Unit 1 test on Tuesday.  On Wednesday and Thursday, students will begin Unit 2.  Lesson 2-1 and 2-2 will be covered this week.  There will be a Progress Check over the two lessons on Friday.
