  • If you have not already done so please pay the student fee. You can pay online by clicking on the following link http://rayschool.weebly.com/.
  • School begins at promptly 8:45.  Please make sure students are arriving on time.  Students who are arriving late are missing significant Math time.
  • Students are attending a field trip next Tuesday, May 14.  Please sign and return the permission slip ASAP with the correct $ amount for the trip.
  • Students will take a practice MAP test this week in reading and Math to assess where they stand towards their EOY goal.

Here is an overview of what we will be doing this week in our CORE SUBJECTS:

Reader’s Workshop–This week, students will work in all five stations of The Daily Five:  Read To Self, Listen To Reading, Word Work, Guided Reading, Reader’s Response.  Please allow students to bring headphones or earbuds to school so they may listen on Epic Books.  Students will be required to write weekly Reader’s Response letters about their IR books as assessments.  In addition, students will take a reading quiz after they complete their IR book.

Guided Reading is now BOOK CLUB: This week, we will begin an author study of Jerry Spinelli.  Guided Teading groups will each be reading a different novel by the author.  Students will be required to read this book for the next few weeks, and it should take priority over their IR book at home.

Math-    This week students will work on Lessons 8-4 and 8-5 in Math.  Students will “spend a million dollars” on the opening and maintenance of a fictional pet shelter.  Because this lesson take a couple days, students will have less homework than usual.
