Weekly Overview/Homework 3/4-3/8

General Notes:

  • Next week students will be taking a state-wide assessment in Math and Reading on Monday-Wednesday.  This test will replace the PARCC tests.  Please see that your child is on time and ready to test each day.
  • If you have not already done so please pay the student fee. You can pay online by clicking on the following link http://rayschool.weebly.com/.
  • School begins at promptly 8:45.  Please make sure students are arriving on time.  Students who are arriving late are missing significant Math time.
  • 3rd-5th Grade Literacy Night –Thursday from 4:15-5:30 (3/14).  All  students and parents are invited to a fun filled literacy night in the cafeteria.  The activities will be interactive for both parents and students.  Free dinner (pizza) will be provided.  Please come out and join us!

Here is an overview of what we will be doing this week in our CORE SUBJECTS:

Reader’s Workshop–This week, students will work in all five stations of The Daily Five:  Read To Self, Listen To Reading, Word Work, Guided Reading, Reader’s Response.  Please allow students to bring headphones or earbuds to school so they may listen on Epic Books.  Students will be required to write weekly Reader’s Response letters about their IR books as assessments.  In addition, students will take a reading quiz after they complete their IR book.

Annotation objective: This week, we will focus on annotating explicit information from the text in our IR books.

Math-    This week students will multiply and divide decimals by powers of 10 and convert units of measure in a variety of ways.  Lesson 6-2 to 6-5 will be covered.

Writer’s Workshop-This week in writing, students will publish their informational research paper on their notable person in Black History.  These are due on Wednesday, March 6.

Ms. Hill will be teaching a unit in POETRY this month!  The unit will begin on Tuesday.

Q3 Focus:  Spelling     This week’s spelling focuses on spelling words correctly with the /oo/ sound spelled oo, ou, ue, u, ew

Spelling List:  gloomy, school, choose, loose, route, clue, truth, duty, ruin, Tuesday, usually, threw, understood, neighborhood, rookie, could, should, bulletin, through, lose.
