Parents,

Q2 ends on January 31!  We will have our Q2 Hot Chocolate Social and Pajama celebration on Thursday January 31.  Invites will be given out prior to students leaving school on Wednesday.  I am so excited to celebrate students’ reading accomplishments!

Raise A Glass For Ray is also on Janury 31.    Please join us for our annual fundraiser at The Promontory: http://rayschool.weebly.com/raise-a-glass-for-ray.html

Here is an overview of what we will be doing this week in our CORE SUBJECTS:

Reader’s Workshop–This week, students will work in all five stations of The Daily Five:  Read To Self, Listen To Reading, Word Work, Guided Reading, Reader’s Response.  Please allow students to bring headphones or earbuds to school so they may listen on Epic Books.  Students will be required to write weekly Reader’s Response letters about their IR books as assessments.  In addition, students will take a reading quiz after they complete their IR book.

Annotation objective: This week, we will focus on annotating questions from the text in our IR books.

Math-  This week in our Unit 4 DECIMALS, students will finish up the unit by practicing subtracting decimals.  We will review on Wednesday, and then students will test on Thursday.  Friday, students will spend time on Khan Mappers to practice skills for the NWEA Map Spring test.

Writer’s Workshop-This week,  students will work on Informational Writing.  This week, students will select a prewrite to use for their first informative essay.  We will use a graphic organizer to begin developing the “skeleton” (outline) of our essays, and we will discuss the parts of a concluding paragraph.  By the end of the week, students will produce a completed graphic organizer to use for drafting.
