Weekly Overview/Homework 1/7 -1/11

I hope you had a fantastic Winter Break!  Students will take NWEA Map tests in Reading and Math on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Also, another reminder that the Q2 goal is READING STAMINA.  Urge your child to read daily and read more and perhaps even read to you!  Students who read at least 5 books or accumulate 25 points on ReadnQuiz will be invited to a Hot Chocolate Social at the end of the quarter.

Raise A Glass For Ray is coming up!  Please join us for our annual fundraiser at The Promontory: http://rayschool.weebly.com/raise-a-glass-for-ray.html

Here is an overview of what we will be doing this week in our CORE SUBJECTS:

Reader’s Workshop–This week, students will work in all five stations of The Daily Five:  Read To Self, Listen To Reading, Word Work, Guided Reading, Reader’s Response.  Please allow students to bring headphones or earbuds to school so they may listen on Epic Books.  Students will be required to write weekly Reader’s Response letters about their IR books as assessments.  In addition, students will take a reading quiz after they complete their IR book.

Our Annotation objectives will change weekly as we begin to refine our thinking as readers.  This week, we will focus on annotating Predictions from the text in our IR books.

Math-  This week in our Unit 4 DECIMALS, students will practice plotting ordered pairs on a coordinate grid, using the (x, y) to plot points.

Writer’s Workshop-This week,  students will share their published Fractured Fairy Tales in an Author’s Chair.  Then, we will begin working on Informational writing.  This week, students will complete two write-outs in their writer’s notebook.  Then, students will select one of these topics to create an informational poem.
