Weekly Overview/Homework 12/3-12/7

Parents,

Just a reminder that the Q2 goal is READING STAMINA.  Urge your child to read daily and read more and perhaps even read to you!  Students who read at least 5 books or accumulate 25 points on Class Dojo will be invited to a Hot Chocolate Social at the end of the quarter.

Here is an overview of what we will be doing this week in our CORE SUBJECTS:

Reader’s Workshop–This week, students will work in all five stations of The Daily Five:  Read To Self, Listen To Reading, Word Work, Guided Reading, Reader’s Response.  Please allow students to bring headphones or earbuds to school so they may listen on Epic Books.  Students will be required to write weekly Reader’s Response letters about their IR books as assessments.  In addition, students will take a reading quiz after they complete their IR book.

Math-  This week in our Unit 3, students will practice adding and subtracting fractions in a variety of ways, as well as solving fraction of problems.  Lessons 3-11—3-14 will be covered.  Please regard the link below for support in helping your child:

Writer’s Workshop-This week,  students will write first drafts of their Fractured Fairy Tales.  Fairy tales will be told from a first-person point of view, and students will select which character they will tell the story through.    In addition, students will receive WEEK 3 Cursive Packet.  These packets are handed out on Mondays and due back the following Monday.  We will spend a little time daily working on cursive in class.  Students will have a short cursive assessment each Monday.
