Parents,

Here’s hoping your Thanksgiving break was restful.  Just four weeks until Winter Break.  It will go by so fast!

Here is an overview of what we will be doing this week in our CORE SUBJECTS:

Reader’s Workshop–This week, students will work in all five stations of The Daily Five:  Read To Self, Listen To Reading, Word Work, Guided Reading, Reader’s Response.  Please allow students to bring headphones or earbuds to school so they may listen on Epic Books.  Students will be required to write weekly Reader’s Response letters about their IR books as assessments.  In addition, students will take a reading quiz after they complete each IR book.

Writer’s Workshop-This week,  students will complete STORY MAPPING their Fractured Fairy Tale IN CLASS.  Early finishers will begin drafting their stories.  We will discuss point of view this week.  Students will be assigned a Writing homework assignment this week to be completed by Friday.  In addition, students will receive their second Cursive Packet.  These packets are handed out on Mondays and due back the following Monday.  We will spend a little time daily working on cursive in class.  Students will have a short cursive assessment on Monday.
