Weekly Overview/Homework 12/11-12/15

Dear Parents,

  • This week students will be participating in Spirit Week.  Please see ClassDojo for daily themes.
  • Reading Logs are now due on Mondays.  This is to accommodate additional reading minutes for Q2.  Students will be expected to read an additional 30 minutes sometime over the weekend.
  • Ray’s STEM Night is this Tuesday, 12/12
    Come join us for a fun night of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math on Tuesday, December 12th from 5:00 – 6:30 PM.
    There will activities for all ages.
    Our school Science Fair judging will be taking place in the cafeteria.

Here is an overview of what we will be doing this week in our CORE SUBJECTS:

Reader’s Workshop–This week, students will work on Daily Five activities.  Students will write their Reader’s Response for a reading assessment grade.  Reader’s Response letters are graded using a Rubric.  Students will meet with me in small guided reading groups to work on reading strategies.  This week’s groups will meet to practice reading strategies that will help them to make connections to the text.  Students will highlight and discuss important parts of the text.  In addition, students will complete classwork activities with Word Work and with Listen To Reading on Epic Books.

Writer’s Workshop-  This week,  students will finish prewriting activities on Persuasive Advertisements.  Then, they will begin drafting their persuasive advertisement.  In addition, students will practice creating similes to add to their free-writing work on Friday.

Math-In Math, students will complete Unit 3: Fractions.  Lessons 3-13 and 3-14 will be covered.  On Wednesday, students will review the unit to prepare for testing.  Then, on Thursday, students will take the Unit 3 assessment.
