I hope you enjoyed Spring Break with your child. We are back at it this week!
Reading- Besides our weekly work in Reader’s Workshop, students will read nonfiction narrative and answer close-reading questions, drawing details from the text and making inferences. In addition, April Book reports are due on Friday May 2. Book report choices, as well as details on each choice and the grading rubric can be found by clicking on the link, fifth grade monthly book reports. PLEASE NOTE: This report due date was changed fro4/28 to 5/2 to give students extra time.
Writing- Students are completing the April Poetry unit. All poems are due by Monday, May 5. We will bookbind our poetry packets for a finished product. Please send in cereal boxes to help us in the bookbinding process.
Math- This week we will cover Everyday Math lessons 11.4, 11.6, and 11.7. We will find volumes for prisms, cylinders, cones and pyramids. We will also find the surface areas for geo-solids, as well as make conversions for capacities.
Our next field trip to the SmART Museum is Wednesday, May 7. We are looking for 1-2 chaperones to help us on this trip. If you have any interest please contact me.
Finally Please check out our new blogs. Each student has a blog of their very own, and this week they posted one of their favorite poems they have written during our Poetry unit. The link is http://kidblog.org/agkrecik/
