This week students will be finishing Units in Math and Social Studies.  There will be tests in both subjects:  Thursday- Social Studies and Friday-Math.  Please notify me if your child will not be in attendance, as I can make arrangements for an earlier test.

In addition, students will be creating and presenting their partner project Webquest:  The 13 colonies.  Students have spent two weeks gathering information in Computer lab on a chosen colony with a partner.  This week, they will create their poster, in class, and present their findings to the class.  This project is an in-class assignment, and outside work is discouraged.

Finally, students will have one homework assignment to complete over break:  Young Author’s book.  Students will be given instructions on how to complete this assignment this week in class.

Wow!  The weather is unbelievable, isn’t it?  I am especially proud of our classroom for keeping it strictly academic in the classroom, as the warm weather can be a distraction for all.  We are continuing to pursue our new units in Math, Social Studies, and Writing.  Students are developing Fractured Fairy Tales and researching an original 13 colony with a classmate.  In addition, we are learning about Order Of Operations in Math (PEMDAS).  This week, we will also explore negative numbers.  If you need to reach me, please email me at:  agkrecik@cps.edu.

Parents,

Pardon my tardiness on returning papers.  They have been collecting in a comical pile atop a shelf, and we seem to forget everyday to return them.  Expect your student to return home on Monday with graded assignments and tests!  In addition, if you have not received your child’s Progress Report yet, please notify me.  These were sent out last Thursday.  Remember- your child should be reading a minimum 30 minutes nightly.  This needs to be completed nightly so they can successfully make their Accelerated Reader (AR) goal.  AR grades were not added to the 5-week Progress Report grade in Reading, but will be added at the end of the quarter.
