Hello Ray School parents,

My name is Ms. Krecik and I will be your child’s 5th/6th grade Social Studies teacher.  I am delighted to have your child in my class this year.  This is my third year teaching at Ray School.  I hold a bachelor’s degree in Dance and a Master’s degree in Education, both from Columbia College in Chicago, IL.  Expect your child to have an experience this year that is both creative and academically challenging.  You may reach me with any questions by contacting me via email:  agkrecik@cps.edu.

Homework: Homework is due at the beginning of class on the assigned due date.  Late homework will only be accepted the next school day for 70% of the grade earned.  Late homework grades cannot be made up with extra credit.

Absences: If a student is absent from class, it is his responsibility to makeup missed work assignments.  Students will have 2 days after receiving missed work to complete it.  Missed homework will be assigned for excused absences only.

Social Studies: This week, both 5th and 6th grade classes will be preparing for Student Council elections.  Each classroom will elect 3 students to represent them in Student Council in 5th and 6th grade.  Student Council is a lot of fun for students, but it is also a lot of work.  Students who are elected to Student Council will be required to bring a sack lunch once per week to be available for meetings at lunchtime.    This week, we will discuss the election process.  We will list the qualities of a good leader, determine political parties, and student nominations will be heard.  All students will participate in Student Council elections, either as nominees, campaign staff to assist the nominees, news media to cover the elections, election board members, or voter advocacy group members.  Student Council elections will take place on Friday (exceptions may occur).

5th Grade: In addition to the elections, students will identify and illustrate various geographic landforms.

6th Grade: In partnerships, students will create projects to illustrate their knowledge of the Five Themes of Geography.
